Today we wrote our unit test for multiplication and division. Marks for that test, as well as science projects and art will be uploaded to Powerschool soon. We continued to work on our west coast, Haida Gwaii inspired art project. Students have chosen to represent an animal of their choice and our using images found online to inspire their work. We are excited for you to see these on Math Night. We continued to work on our narrative stories and our very close to being done our first draft. Some students have started to do an individual edit. We will do a few peer edits before publishing out work. In Social Studies we began an open book assessment tasking students to utilize texts that they have already read to help them answer the questions. Today was the second last day of Mission Impossible in PE. Tomorrow is the last day of the week. There is no school on Friday. 
Hey, This week we have been reviewing for our Math unit test for multiplication and division. We are going to do one more quick review tomorrow before writing our test. We will be moving onto Fractions and Decimals next. In Social Studies we are utilizing the text to access information about Confederation and the impact of the Canadian Pacific Railway. We are going to have an open book quiz. Students will be given the next 2 classes to complete the task with a partner. Students have been working hard on their Hero's Journey Story. We have almost complete our first draft and will move into editing and revising. You can take a look at your students story on their Google Drive account. There is no school on Friday. Math night is on February 6th from 6-8pm.
Hey everyone! Today we worked on our narrative stories first thing. Ask your child what part of the story they wrote today and what is coming up next. In math we did our second word problem of the week utilizing "I do, We do, You do". Ask your child how it works and the process we went through. You could also discuss with them the strategy they used to solve and prove their answer as well as the connection that they made. We also did word work, did a refection in Science, had PE, practiced Mindfulness, and worked on our art project. Students had one last day to work on the current art project. It is due Friday, although we will not have any more class time to complete it (they were given almost 2 weeks). Many students did not utilize their time effectively and will need to complete it at home. Student will receive an incomplete grade on Powerschool until the assignment is completed. 
Finally a day where students could be outside for their breaks! Today started off with Ignite then Music. We are spending a little bit of time in our classroom writing 'thank you' letters to Beddington Towne Centre who generously donated a whole, brand new, class set of ukuleles to our school! They are very awesome. In Practice Writing we continued to work through our story writing. Students wrote a few more parts of their Hero's Journey and then typed up what they had completed. Their stories are really coming together. You can check them out on Google Docs at home! In Math we continued our practice of long division. For the rest of the week we will focus on word problems relating to multiplication and division. We will have our unit test next week. Students received their new spelling words for the week. Happy Friday! Looks like we finally have some warmer weather ahead of us! Today in practice writing we wrote the first of our three Trials for our Hero's Journey. Students then typed up what they had written at the end of the day. For Math we continued to practice long division. The experts (confident students) in our classroom worked to support students who were still needing some help. After our practice today students unanimously felt more confident than the previous day. We also continued to work on our Art project, had PE, and practiced Mindfulness. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Another day of indoor recess. The weather is looking much better next week though. Our morning started with Ignite. We also had Music and PE in the morning as well. Students also spent some time responding to questions relating to Angry Birds and the Empathy concept of Self-Regulation. In Math we did an I do, we do, you do (with peer helpers) to practice long division. Students watched as I demonstrated a few problems on the board, we then did a few as a group, and finally students practiced some on their own. A few students, who are confident with the skill, helped their peers who needed some extra support. It was great to see them demonstrate a high level of understanding through teaching/supporting. With out buddies we listened to a story and then helped them write their names in braille. Finally we finished our day working on our optical illusion art project.
Due to the weather this week, we will likely have indoor recess and lunch every day. We are doing are best to provide movement break opportunities for students throughout the day. In Math we have begun long division. We are utilizing the Family Method and graphic organizers to help us with our practice. I will continue to model problems, work through problems as a group, and have students practice independently or with a partner throughout the week. In Language Arts we finished typing up the Call to Action part of our story today. Students will write their Trails (rising action) over the next couple days.  In Science students finished their explanations for how their game board works. They then had time to play their own game boards, as well as another groups, and receive some feedback on them.  In Social Studies we did a Close Read and began to answer comprehension questions on (ask your child to explain close reading to you) of a text titled "who was left out of
Good luck with the cold weather this weekend. Please remind your children to dress warm next week! We had a great first week of school. Today students finished up their Game Boards and started to write a reflection explaining how it works. We are excited to share our Math review Electronic Game Boards during Math Night! Math Night is coming up on February 6th from 6-8 pm . Please join us as we are all excited to share what we have been learning in our classrooms. We also utilized Mathletics to review previous units (addition, subtraction, and estimation) to insure we maintain our understanding. A reminder that we will have our spelling quiz on Monday.
Happy Thursday Everyone. Today we had a very busy day including Ignite, our Daily 5, Music, Math, PE, Science, Mindfulness, SS, Buddies, and typing up the beginning of our stories. In Science we worked on our Electrifying Game Boards. Ask your child how they work. Tomorrow they will be working on a write up to explain how they work in detail. In Math we played a math game to practice our division basic facts and division with remainders. We will start long division next week. Students have written their Entertaining Beginnings and Elaborative Detail for their stories and typed them up. Ask your child what their story is about! Please remind your children to wear warm clothing, including mitts and hats, as it is supposed to be very cold next week.  
Welcome back! Today in room 16 we had a very busy day. To start off we had Ignite and then Music. Students then came back to the classroom and worked through most of our Daily 5. After this we went to the gym where we did fitness. Following in Math we did some multiplication review to brush up on the strategies we learned before the holiday break. In the afternoon we started with Mindfulness. Our school will be participating in Mindfulness for the first 10 minutes of each afternoon. Next, in Practice Writing, we worked on the Elaborative Detail for our Hero's Journey stories. We will continue to work on this tomorrow. After our break we introduced our new circuit Science project. Students will be electrifying game boards to help us review concepts we have learned about this year. Ask them about the plan they created today and how it is going to work!
