Happy Thursday Everyone.

Today we had a very busy day including Ignite, our Daily 5, Music, Math, PE, Science, Mindfulness, SS, Buddies, and typing up the beginning of our stories.

In Science we worked on our Electrifying Game Boards. Ask your child how they work. Tomorrow they will be working on a write up to explain how they work in detail.

In Math we played a math game to practice our division basic facts and division with remainders. We will start long division next week.

Students have written their Entertaining Beginnings and Elaborative Detail for their stories and typed them up. Ask your child what their story is about!

Please remind your children to wear warm clothing, including mitts and hats, as it is supposed to be very cold next week.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Today we began our fractions unit in Math. Students started by creating fraction slips and then comparing fractions utilizing greater than, less than, and equal to with a partner.  In Language Arts students received their new words for the week. Students also continued  to type up the rough draft of their stories this week. The first draft of their story is due (typed up on Google Docs) by Wednesday. They will receive two more days to work on it at school. In Science we studies for our electricity unit test tomorrow. Students were given time to study in the class and ask questions. They were also given a study sheet for them to review tonight if they felt they needed a bit more time to study.  We also had Music, Ignite, and PE.  Mr. Berry created a website for our grade team. Today was a very exciting day. We had Ignite, Music, Math, PE, Language Arts speech presentations, and an amazing guest Opera performance in the afternoon! In Math students finished up their first data assignments. That is the last amount of class time they will receive and will have to be completed when they are finished other work or at home. The task is due Thursday. We are still working our way through speeches. They will be presented over the next few days. Reminders: We have a field trip on Wednesday to Safety Expo which is help down town at City Hall and surrounding areas. Although snowy and cold, we still managed to have a terrific Monday.  Students had to stay inside for both lunch recess and our break due to the windchill making the temperature feel like - 20. We took lots of movement breaks to help keep us focused and on task.  Today was the final day for presentations in Social Studies. The students were all very excited to present their work to their peers. Great job everyone! In math we utilized Mathletics to review some multiplication concepts. Our next unit will be addition and subtraction of decimals.  For health we are examining the old Willy Wonka movie and tying it into the 9 Habits of Teaching Empathy to Kids. We are looking at the habit of Ethical Code. We will have discussion and reflection over the next few days.    In Language Arts students did their spelling quizzes.  Students got new books from the library today.
