Happy Long Weekend Everyone!


Today in Math we played Multiplication Baseball to practice our basic facts. We then worked through a multi-step word problem together as a whole group. Next week we will continue to build strategies for solving word problems focused around addition, subtraction, and place value. We will have our unit test for our first unit the following week after some review days.

In LA we practiced our Daily 5 with a focus on descriptive writing. Students will begin to write descriptive paragraphs for their guided drawings of scarecrows next week.

In Social Studies we had our final day of research. Students used the text book to find more information on their chosen region. Students have access to their Google documents as well as the 'must, should, could' on their Google drive if they choose to work on it over the weekend. We will begin to create our Google Slides presentations next week.

In Art we began a project inspired by famous Canadian artist Ted Harrison. Ted Harrison used strong line work, contour, and bright colours to showcase Canadian landscape. Mostly that of the Arctic Region. If you would like to see examples I have attached a link below.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Today we began our fractions unit in Math. Students started by creating fraction slips and then comparing fractions utilizing greater than, less than, and equal to with a partner.  In Language Arts students received their new words for the week. Students also continued  to type up the rough draft of their stories this week. The first draft of their story is due (typed up on Google Docs) by Wednesday. They will receive two more days to work on it at school. In Science we studies for our electricity unit test tomorrow. Students were given time to study in the class and ask questions. They were also given a study sheet for them to review tonight if they felt they needed a bit more time to study.  We also had Music, Ignite, and PE.  Mr. Berry created a website for our grade team. Today was a very exciting day. We had Ignite, Music, Math, PE, Language Arts speech presentations, and an amazing guest Opera performance in the afternoon! In Math students finished up their first data assignments. That is the last amount of class time they will receive and will have to be completed when they are finished other work or at home. The task is due Thursday. We are still working our way through speeches. They will be presented over the next few days. Reminders: We have a field trip on Wednesday to Safety Expo which is help down town at City Hall and surrounding areas. Although snowy and cold, we still managed to have a terrific Monday.  Students had to stay inside for both lunch recess and our break due to the windchill making the temperature feel like - 20. We took lots of movement breaks to help keep us focused and on task.  Today was the final day for presentations in Social Studies. The students were all very excited to present their work to their peers. Great job everyone! In math we utilized Mathletics to review some multiplication concepts. Our next unit will be addition and subtraction of decimals.  For health we are examining the old Willy Wonka movie and tying it into the 9 Habits of Teaching Empathy to Kids. We are looking at the habit of Ethical Code.
