It's a chilly winter wonderland out there! Hopefully everyone got home safe.

Today in writing we worked on our Hero's Journey plan. We first watched the Call to Action from Harry Potter and Star Wars as an exemplar. You can watch the video here:

Students then planned their own Call to Action for their story. Ask your child about it.

In Math students finished their pixel art and found the area and perimeter of rectangles and squares in their image. When they were finished they completed left over assignments on Mathletics. Tomorrow we will have a quiz on perimeter and area.

In Social Studies students began using the same website from yesterday to find answers to the research questions that they posed. Students will have one more day to complete this task tomorrow.

In Science we did a pre and post watching assessment utilizing a Bill Nye video on magnetism to assess students prior knowledge.

We had PE and also got new books from the Library today.

Today was a very exciting day. We had Ignite, Music, Math, PE, Language Arts speech presentations, and an amazing guest Opera performance in the afternoon! In Math students finished up their first data assignments. That is the last amount of class time they will receive and will have to be completed when they are finished other work or at home. The task is due Thursday. We are still working our way through speeches. They will be presented over the next few days. Reminders: We have a field trip on Wednesday to Safety Expo which is help down town at City Hall and surrounding areas. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Today we began our fractions unit in Math. Students started by creating fraction slips and then comparing fractions utilizing greater than, less than, and equal to with a partner.  In Language Arts students received their new words for the week. Students also continued  to type up the rough draft of their stories this week. The first draft of their story is due (typed up on Google Docs) by Wednesday. They will receive two more days to work on it at school. In Science we studies for our electricity unit test tomorrow. Students were given time to study in the class and ask questions. They were also given a study sheet for them to review tonight if they felt they needed a bit more time to study.  We also had Music, Ignite, and PE.  Mr. Berry created a website for our grade team.
