Happy Monday!

Today we had our spelling tests for the week. 

We have 5 spelling/word work groups in our room. They are working with grade level materials based off of a baseline assessment done at the beginning of the year. 

The groups and related grade level materials are:

Orange: Grade 2 
Purple: Grade 3
Yellow: Grade 4
Red: Grade 5 expectations 
Blue: Grade 5 expectations

Your child will move up (or down) depending on our weekly spelling assessments as well as the completion and accuracy of their daily word work. 

In Math we did an assessment we were asked to do by our administration that reviews material taught in grade 4. This will help us to plan our future units accordingly to meet the needs of your children.

In Science we continued to talk about clouds. We went outside to see what type of cloud cover we saw. Ask your child what type of clouds there were and their prediction for what the weather will be like tomorrow.

In Social Studies we created success criteria (checklist of must, should, could) for our Physical Regions of Alberta project. Ask your child what region they chose to research further.

Today was a very exciting day. We had Ignite, Music, Math, PE, Language Arts speech presentations, and an amazing guest Opera performance in the afternoon! In Math students finished up their first data assignments. That is the last amount of class time they will receive and will have to be completed when they are finished other work or at home. The task is due Thursday. We are still working our way through speeches. They will be presented over the next few days. Reminders: We have a field trip on Wednesday to Safety Expo which is help down town at City Hall and surrounding areas. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Today we began our fractions unit in Math. Students started by creating fraction slips and then comparing fractions utilizing greater than, less than, and equal to with a partner.  In Language Arts students received their new words for the week. Students also continued  to type up the rough draft of their stories this week. The first draft of their story is due (typed up on Google Docs) by Wednesday. They will receive two more days to work on it at school. In Science we studies for our electricity unit test tomorrow. Students were given time to study in the class and ask questions. They were also given a study sheet for them to review tonight if they felt they needed a bit more time to study.  We also had Music, Ignite, and PE.  Mr. Berry created a website for our grade team.
